The dynamic and ever-changing world of digital marketing requires a marketer to be versatile and savvy more than ever. That’s why we’ve put together our top four digital marketing trends that you need to look out for in 2019 in order to stay ahead of your competitors.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, does that make a video worth a million? With 87% of online marketers already using video content it’s not a new concept, however, are you using it effectively? Our top tips? Define your audience, tell a story, get your message across quickly and use humour where appropriate.
Amongst the uproar of a new vegan sausage roll being launched, Greggs released a great example of how to execute video content perfectly. At the time of writing this it’s already amassed over 5 million views in just 5 days!
Take a look at it below:
The chatbot was one of the hottest trends of 2018 and there’s no sign of that changing in 2019. Chatbots enable your business to respond to questions 24/7, helping you to save on effort, time and money. Combining this with the ability to broadcast messages directly to customers and to segment users into targeted groups, a chatbot could and should be a core element of your digital marketing strategy.
Email marketing doesn’t work anymore, does it? It has been argued that email marketing is no longer an effective digital marketing strategy, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, according to Smart Insights, email marketing is ranked as the most effective marketing channel beating SEO and social media!
However, generic emails that used to work no longer do and that opens the door to email personalisation, the key to an effective email. Emails should be triggered to target customers at every point of the decision-making process.
Personalisation improves the customer relationship and thus improves the chances of them buying your product or service.
Kevin George, Head of Marketing at EmailMonks hit the nail on the head: “The future of e-mail is real-time, behaviour-based personalisation. A study by Marketo shows that personalised, triggered e-mails based on behaviour are 3x better than batch-and-blast e-mail”

The voice search revolution is well underway with 2 in 5 adults performing a voice search at least once a day. In fact, it’s predicted that by 2020, 50% of all searches will be made via voice – wow!
What does this mean for my business? Good question! Your SEO strategy will need to be flexible and you’ll need to adapt to these changes. For instance, conventional language and traditional text searches will need to be transformed into long-tail question queries.
For example, when searching for a restaurant you may type “Best restaurant in Milton Keynes”, however, when talking you’re more likely to say “Hey, Siri, what are the best restaurants in Milton Keynes”. This subtle change means your content needs to have conventional language.
2019 holds a huge amount of opportunity for people who are willing to ride the digital marketing trend wave and utilise the digital marketing methods we mentioned above.
