When we founded Star Digital in 2006, we could not have imagined how far we would have travelled since those beginning in a converted garage on the side of our house. We grew rapidly, and by 2013 we were a 24 strong digital commerce agency building huge e-commerce projects in Magento, one of the firsts and biggest in Northampton.
We really enjoyed the early years of running our agency, meeting lots of excited, entrepreneurial clients, not only in Northamptonshire, but all over the UK.
We had a number of firsts:, we were the first company to fully integrate with Evo Auction, we helped run the biggest ever Groupon promotion in the UK, we were the first winners of the Email Marketing award at RAR. We partnered with the Magento Enterprise team right back at the beginning when you could still email the founder, and we loved what we did.
In January 2020, we launched a new design first initiative. We were full of excitement for the post Brexit pent up demand and ready to go. And then in February, some of the team got ill. We couldn’t pinpoint it, it seemed like a bad Flu. Then we found out about Covid.
We closed our Northampton offices at the end of February, ahead of the national lockdown and prepared everyone for the work from home revolution. We had to furlough a few people, and WFH wasn’t for everyone. But then something remarkable happened. We recruited some new people to replace the ones who moved on, and we did it remotely. We recruited far afield from our Northamptonshire home.
Our brilliant team got to grips with remote working really quickly, helped by technology and daily stand-ups they began to win new business and enhance the current client portfolio. We welcomed fabulous new clients like the Mum Club, Impervia, Honeywell Smart Energy in the USA and Aviela, an exciting new health and beauty brand who all embraced working with us truly remotely, and we produced some great work together.
Throughout all of this the energy returned to our agency. The team, although now geographically dispersed, were having fun and enjoying their work. The clients were happy, engaged and enjoying working with us. It felt like the early days. In June 2020 we made the decision to give up our office space and go completely remote. It was a bold decision, we knew that. It’s been empowering for everyone on the journey. No more commutes, no working late in the office, much more freedom to work when you want how you want.
Fast forward just over a year and we are like a new agency, excited about the future, working collectively to make creative excellence and results oriented digital marketing the heart of our business.
We are now looking forward to beginning conversations with clients from anywhere as we’ve proved through the pandemic that brilliance can be delivered remotely. We have, however, also decided to stay loyal to our roots as one of the firsts web design companies in Northampton, and we now have meeting spaces available in the vibrant Vulcan Works, where we occasionally like to meet our clients face to face. Weand look forward to engaging with new clients looking to take their online business to another level and we also would like to thank everyone who has been on the ride with us for the past 17 years. Chapter 2 wanted to have their brand reflected by their website. This meant that a sleek new look for the recruitment solution was required and it also involved re-platforming and building this design within Webflow.

The first step in designing and building a Shopify website is to have a clear understanding of the client's goals and requirements. We can either setup online meetings or arrange to visit you on site or for you to visit us at our Northampton studio. In this meeting we will aim to gather as much information about your business, target audience, products, services, branding guidelines, and desired features. Once we have this we will then create a project plan that outlines the scope, timeline, and budget.
Once we have a clear understanding of the client's requirements, we can then begin the design process. Creating wireframes or mockups of the website layout which will be shared with the client at key stages for input and to make any changes. Once the client has finalised the design and everything has been approved we will then move into the development phase.
In this step, we will start building the Shopify website based on the approved design by setting up a development environment and either installing the necessary Shopify theme or creating a custom theme. The build process will include integrating any required third-party apps, configuring shipping options as well as payment gateways and customising the theme according to the design. Once the development is coming close to the end we will invite you in to review and make any tweaks.
Once the basic structure and functionality of the website are in place, it's time to populate it with content. This will depend slightly if we are doing a redesign or if we are starting from scratch. Either way we will work with the client to gather and create high-quality content which will improve visibility and organic traffic. We will also aid with any other visual content required.
Before launching the website, thorough testing and quality assurance are crucial. We test all aspects of the website, including its responsiveness across different devices, functionality of all features and integrations, checkout process, and overall user experience. We will also fix any bugs or issues that arise during testing to ensure a smooth user experience.
After completing the testing and quality assurance phase, it's time to launch the Shopify website. We will configure your domain to the Shopify website. Set up any necessary website analytics and tracking tools to monitor performance. Once the website is live we offer a 30 day support period where any bugs will be fixed free of charge. After the 30 days we will look to setup a support package to continue to maintain the website and build a long lasting relationship.
